In the competition for the least surprising news story ever (and ahead on points over 'Christmas is on 25 December this year' and 'Barley spotted in field') it was announced that Easyjet will lay off 5,000 staff and potentially close three of its British airport hubs at Stansted, Southend and Newcastle. It will be a surprise to some that something quite as orange can be quite so big, but Easyjet are the UK's largest airline with about 318 Airbus 320 aircraft (almost a happy coincidence) and this is huge news for the airline industry and also pretty large news for someone who has booked a flight to an airport in Italy that is 70 miles away from the nearest large town.
