VAT deregistration mailbox changes

HMRC has issued guidance which confirmed that the dedicated mailbox service for Insolvency Practitioners to request VAT deregistration confirmation which has been in place since January 2023 was closed yesterday (Monday 15 January).

The mailbox was for use when IPs were unable to obtain a response through the normal channels.

HMRC proudly announce that going forward you will receive a VRT23 letter within 40 days of submission of a VAT 7 form and there will be no requirement to use the mailbox as you will be issued automatic confirmation of VAT deregistration.  Surely they mean a VAT23 letter?

Despite the fact that confirmation will be “automatic”, if you do not receive confirmation of VAT deregistration within 40 days of sending your VAT 7 form, you are advised to call the VAT helpline on 0300 200 3700.

Finally, if you have any questions about this matter, you are requested to direct them to R3 or your representative group who will take them forward with HMRC.
